Getting paid: No more chasing invoices
Get paid before you leave the job: a deposit or a card on file at booking, the card charged when the customer signs off, and parts paid before you order them.

- The chore
- Writing invoices, waiting on checks and chasing the ones that don't come.
- What it does
- Collects at the time of service, so there's almost nothing left to collect later.
- Where it runs
- What it costs
- $175 an hour, from a written estimate with a cap
How it works, step by step
At booking, the customer pays a deposit or puts a card on file.
For parts, they pay on a payment page before you order.
At the end of the job, they sign on your phone.
The card is charged right then, and they get a receipt.
The payment posts to QuickBooks on its own.
Almost no unpaid invoices to chase: customers pay at the end of the job.
That's how it works in our two businesses, not a promise for every business.
How we did it
Customers in both businesses pay at the job or within a few days.

Days from the job to the money
How many of the 55 completed jobs were paid in full on each day, from 7 days before the visit to 7 days after. The red mark is the median.
How that compares:
50 of the 55 jobs were paid in full on or before the day of the visit, and all 55 within 5 days. Construction subcontractors typically wait 51 to 56 days.

Charged at sign-off
The card is charged the moment the customer signs, with a receipt.
What it costs
$175 an hour
One rate for all of it.
- Estimate
- Before any project, you get a written estimate with a not-to-exceed cap. You pay for the hours we actually work, never more than the cap.
- If the job changes
- If the job changes, we write a new estimate before doing more.
- First meeting at your business
- An on-site consultation is billed by the hour. If we go ahead, that time comes off the job.
- First call by phone or video
- Tell us on the form if a phone or video call is enough to start. We'll look at what you sent and tell you before we talk whether there's any charge.
- A closer look
- If we need a closer look at how the business runs, that's billed by the hour too, like everything else.
- Travel
- On-site travel: the first 30 minutes each way are on us, then $40 per half hour.
- Contract
- No long-term contract or retainer. You sign each written estimate before we start.
